A Marsh Rose
A trip to the Botanic Gardens as Kirstenbosch. Lovely weather, great views of Table Mountain and also over Cape Town.
The Marsh Rose is a rare flower, only now found in six small isolated populations, and difficult to grow in cultivation. It is part of a family called "Protea", members of which are widespread throughout South Africa.
In addition to the plants, there were lots of sculptures, including the one shown in extras - I've suggested it would make an interesting addition to the edge of our wild life pond, but sadly I think it would be difficult to fit it into our suitcases!
