After the ballet
Just five minutes earlier this hall was jammed with people. But by the time we left, it was quiet and almost empty. We saw a fantastic show of three ballets, two by Benjamin Millepied, and one by Balanchine. Millepied is a new choreographer for the Pacific Northwest Ballet and his works were wonderful. The Balanchine was classic ballet, down to the white tutus and it was a real crowd-pleaser. The little girls in their dressy dresses were out too, and I believe my sister Dreaming will be blipping some of those.
“You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive.” ― Merce Cunningham
