Restoration
Halifax Piece Hall.
This beautiful and unique grade 1 building was first opened in 1779.
It became almost derelict, and restoration began in October 2014.
After £19m, part funded by Calderdale Council and part funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, hopefully it will reopen early next year.
On a Heritage walk today we were so very lucky to have been allowed inside to have a look at how the work was progressing.
There still seemed a lot to do, but we were told that the worst had now been done, and it was just the finishing off now.
I can't wait to sit in the square, on a day like today, in the sunshine drinking a cup of coffee, and browse through craft shops in the arcades above.
The beautiful tall spire, you can see in the background, is all that is left of the Square church. This is going to be the centre of the new library and archive, which will connect to the Piece Hall. The £9.5m for this is funded completely by the council.
I just hope that in twelve months time the whole area will be buzzing.
Watch out for my blip next year.
