Blessed are the fish mongers
Today we started out at the old barracks where soldiers from Belgium who were here on the UN peace keeping mission were killed in 1994 just at the start of the genocide. We then moved on to the Genocide Museum. A very moving and sobering place. It makes me wonder given it was such recent history how the people are coping now. It must have left such terrible psychological scars.
From there we moved on to markets where this photo was taken. This lady was selling fish in the shop called "Stella Fresh Fish - God Bless You". Right next door was another shop selling fish which had a big sign "In Cod we Trust". Actually, if you looked closer it was a G and not a C but it had me chuckling for a while. She very kindly let me take her photo. The market was full of fruits, pulses, vegetables and other food stuffs. Bustling with people and action.
We then had lunch at Hotel des Mille Collines, ( The original Hotel Rwanda) and then back to the hotel. An early start tomorrow as we head off for Nyungwe Mountain Rain Forest. We are told it is a long drive. No more internet I suspect for a week or so, so I will check in on you when I get back.
