Backblip #6
We missed the train to Margate - we couldn't find the ticket office and there weren't any machines anywhere! Instead we popped over the road and bought a Toblerone each, which made the half hour wait for the next train a lot easier to handle.
Margate's got better since we went last year I think. Better in the sense that they've started regenerating more bits. And also better in the opposing sense that other bits have got even crappier, and I do love a slightly crappy town (when I don't have to live in it).
We went to the Turner, firstly to use the toilets, then to see the Tracey Emin exhibition (rather good), then to have some food in the cafe. I had parsnip cake, which I'd never considered as a feasible thing but was DE-LISH.
A walk to the end of the harbour wall, then out along the beach (the one that goes out along the coast and was practically deserted, not the hideously busy one inside the harbour). After that we walked back into town and explored all the amazing vintage shops and tiny galleries. There are more of them since last year too, and I basically wanted everything from all of them.
Back to the station, and we got the train back to Westgate-on-Sea. We despaired slightly about the lack of chip shops, until we found one right down by the beach. We ate them on the sand, then paddled (and Mother had a swim).
After a few hours we dusted the sand off and headed back home. We had dinner then went for the obligatory evening wander to the beach and had a bottle of cider while the sun set.
