El Route 66
Woken by heavy rain and with the forecast not great we headed west into the hills. Apart from some grey skies, a heavy downpour and (in the hills) the temperature dropping to 14oC, it was the right choice. We drove along some very rural roads, through olive groves, over some mountain passes with some bends and drops worthy of the Alps.
We again passed the solar centre (last seen 2 years ago) see blip of 6 June 2014, but this time it was not blazing.
We headed into Tabernas but most places seemed closed but on the road out we came across the Route 66 bar and restaurant. Talk about an homage to all things American, as in the blip. At least in food terms, there was a distinctive Spanish twist. A lovely lunch then back to the apartment with an evening visit to the nearby village where their 3 day fiesta has just started. See extra.
