A Bit Of History With Tea And Cake
I was waiting outside All Saints' Church, Northampton this afternoon to meet fellow Blipper Cathaberfor tea and cake.
After one of those days when I'd been stuck for an interesting blip, I settled on this; high above the church entrance stands Charles 11. Though there has always been a church on the site of All Saints' since Norman times, the church that stands today was built after the Great Fire of Northampton in 1675 and this clock added in 1829. These are the words cut into the stone below the statue:-
"This Statue was erected in memory of King Charles II who gave a thousand tun of timber towards the rebuilding of this church and to this town seven years chimney money collected in it."
I like the warm Northamptonshire sandstone and that the clock was slow by 15 minutes.
