A day off! Use it or lose it, they said.
So I arranged to meet her at school but she reneged and went home and slept til 11; I pottered about on the bike, picked sloes, bought her lad some bike lights (the nichts are fair drawing in, you know) and then duly arrived at hers.
As soon as we set off on the bikes for North Berwick, the rain started, but thankfully by the time we'd cleared the Innocent Tunnel it was easing so we made good time to Musselburgh.
Then towards the end of the ash lagoons - a puncture. So I got my final patch out and off we went again. And got as far as Aberlady when the second puncture appeared....
So we pushed the bikes back to Longniddry (3 miles) and grabbed some soup and a sandwich and jumped on a train back into town (the plan has always been to get a train from N Berwick, so... no great loss)
Back into town, she went home, I pushed the bike to Granton, dropped it into the bike shop and asked them to put new bombproof tyres on it. Then to the school, grabbed the boys and after getting milk and bread we went home for goulash and meatballs.
A good evening in with the boys.
