Polly's Pictures

By PollyH

A dying craft.

This is a photo of my late mother taken in the 60's at a craft exhibition.  She learnt how to make Buck's Lace when aged 5.  The tablecloth hanging behind her was a 21st birthday present to me.  My sister and I both had one.  She designed the pattern and then destroyed the parchment so they would remain unique.
It went underneath my wedding cake and those of my sons and grandson used it at his recent wedding. (tried to add this as an extra but failed miserably - blame the update!)
She did teach me a basic pattern but I found it too work intensive.  My sister and I do have a few of her favourite bobbins as a memento.
