The Petbus

Friends of ours had a neighbour who had retired from farming, and had a Huntaway dog that he wanted to give to a good home.  'Storm' was six years old and had worked on a beef and sheep farm prior to his boss selling his farm and moving into town.

When our friends asked if we would be interested in having the dog, we thought we would do the retired farmer a good deed.   The only issue was he lived in Oamaru, 534km away which was a good 6 1/2 hour drive.

Researching via google, Farmerboy came across the Petbus, which travels from one end of the Country and back again once a month, picking up and dropping of pets, which range from dogs, cats, birds, etc.  You name it and they probably cart it!

So we booked in Storm, and he was due to arrive today.  The bus came up the East Coast of the Island, so we had a two hour drive to Blenheim today to pick him up.

Storm is a gorgeously big and friendly dog.  Sitting in his kennel this afternoon, he was very attentive looking at the cows going to their paddock after milking.  I'm sure he will fit in well once he has settled in.

I thought the idea of this Petbus was a fantastic idea, and it was amazing that in Blenheim there were several people there (including the SPCA) putting dogs and other animals on the bus. It certainly helped us out.  Kiwi ingenuity at its best!
