Snow!
It was difficult to pack for a trip when we knew it was going to be cold when it was hot outside, so I just put in all my winter hiking gear, some of which hasn't been worn for at least 10 years, and hoped for the best.
We had thought to take a quick hike up to the Plain of Six glaciers tea house yesterday but were thwarted by the fact that there was no place to park in the large Lake Louse lot or for a long distance along the road. This is a traditional warm up hike for us, but in the end we settled for the walk to the lake from our cabin and back.
This morning, OilMan and I were both remembering the time we set off from the lake in shorts and tee shirts and were wearing everything we had with us by the time we got to the base of the glacier in snow.. This morning we were spared packing all those clothes in our packs as it was already snowing when we woke up and we were wearing them.
There is something very civilized about finding a place that serves hot food and drinks after a trek in the hills. We sat out on the porch having a bowl of soup and watching a Clarks' Nuthatch inching closer and closer to the remnants of our lunch as we rushed to finish it (see extra).
The picture of OilMan heading back down the trail as it was starting to snow again was taken at the foot of the Victoria Glacier at the back of Lake Louise. The glacier has receded considerably since we were last here and the remaining part merged with the clouds so that I was never able to get a good shot of it.
