Goldfinches in the Rowan Tree

This is one of my favourite photos from our trip to Mull. The flock of goldfinches that lives out the summer and early autumn at Treshnish Point. In Speptember they are feeding on the seeds of the knapweed, docks and rosebay willow herb.

The morning was fiercely overcast but the light reflecting off the channel between Mull and Coll over the water brought the silhouettes of the flighty birds into stark relief.

The sun shone and we ate a late Sunday lunch outside with not a midge in sight.
