Café Life in Bordeaux
The old center of Bordeaux is full of squares like this one (early afternoon), typically bordered with cafés and restaurants. Most of the streets are pedestrian, totally closed to through traffic. The other theme here is the vertical element in the city's architecture (mostly 19th century); although the streets are typically straight, there are a surprising number of curves. In 2007 a large part of this central area was named a Unesco World Heritage Site; we spent much of this superb day wandering through it. (My mark on the map is a bit of a guess.)
I'm off to bed--on pins and needles anticipate the debate between Hilary Clinton and Donald. I may even get up at 3 am to try to watch it.
