A morning in Appleby

Appleby-in-Westmorland is my usual stop-off point on my annual trip to Scotland. I know a great b and b there and the following morning it's such a pleasure to wander around this lovely friendly market town. Everyone seems so pleasant, particularly the ladies in the Tourist Information Office. I've been dropping in on Appleby for many years now and it has found itself a little place in my heart. I felt so sorry last winter when it suffered terribly in the floods but it's easy to see how it can happen when you see how close it is to the River Eden.
