Foxing
Some years ago we inherited an original watercolour by Alfred Heaton Cooper showing Windermere from Wansfell. It was painted in September 1915 and has a hand written note from the artist on the back. I recently noticed that it has developed extensive 'foxing' - disfiguring brown spots caused by bacteria growing on the paper. Consequently I've been photographing it to send to some fine art restorers for a quotation. I'm now holding my breath as I fear it may be a rather expensive job.
