Brickwork

A day to ourselves!

After breakfast, where we said goodbye to some of the fellow workshoppers from the week, we had another little wander around Greifswald, so that I could see the the Sankt Jacobi Kirche and also enjoy the walk around the walls. Unfortunately, by this stage my knees were already starting to play havoc, since there had been a good deal of pavement pounding in the last week or so. But there were some great photo opportunities, and I chose the blip because it highlighted the striking sights of the "brick gothic".

After one last coffee on the market place, it was off to the station for the short hop to Stralsund, which is another stop on the European route of the brick gothic. Somewhat randomly our small hotel does not have a reception that is staffed all day, so we had to wait until 2pm to check in. We whiled the time away having a proper lunch with a view of the harbour front. However, the hotel - and the room - were worth the wait. Fantastic views out towards the Island of Rügen, towards the bridge over to Rügen, and of the docks immediately below us.

In the early evening, we walked along the front and up into the old town, which is much more interesting and charming than Greifswald. The roads are a little more higgledy piggledy, and there seemed quite a lot more to see.
