Times ticking by
We left home at just gone six to make sure we were in plenty of time to catch our train to Edinburgh which left at 6.50am. They are resurfacing parts of the A9 so there are speed restrictions leading up to the bridge but we made it in time and settled into our first class seats. We thought it would be quiet but two young ladies got on and chatted away loudly, both speaking at the same time, all the way to Edinburgh. We did enjoy our free drinks and cakes etc and the views from the train were lovely. The sun was just rising above the Cairngorms as we travelled past.
It was colder and windier when we arrived in Edinburgh at just gone 10 and we headed to Jenners for Breakfast. We both had scrambled eggs and salmon on potato scones, very tasty and plenty of it.
Afterwards we went for a walk around Princes Street gardens . Most of the summer bedding was still blooming but there were metal fences blocking alot of the gardens and surrounding the lovely fountain. It was busy with lots of people enjoying the Autumn day. We went to see the statue of Wojtek the bear and Polish soldier. Still looking really good and I wondered when I saw him last November if his nose would become shiny and it has. We watched several people go and give it a rub.
The blip shows the Floral clock that can be found near the steps as you go into the gardens. It takes two gardeners five weeks to plant the 35,000 individual plants. The first clock appeared in 1903 and this year it celebrates The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. It is a working clock and since 1973 is driven by electricity.
We got to our hotel and thought we would have a relaxing afternoon before the Theatre only to be told that there had been a burst water pipe which supplies that part of Edinburgh so the water was off. We were given bottles of water and then we started to wonder if we'd be able to have dinner if the problem was nt resolved so even though we were not that hungry we popped across the road to the pub and had an early dinner just incase things got worse.
Back to the hotel room to relax, haha, well there were roadworks RIGHT outside our window and I have never heard such a racketed as they ripped the surface of the Road up, fire engines and police cars with sirens blasting zoomed by , buses stopped and started, people shouting, I'm definitely NOT a city girl.
Anyway we went to see Billy Elliot. Must admit we were a bit disappointed. The dancing was great but there was a lot of swearing which we did nt expect ,especially when spoken by the children. Some funny parts though and it made you want to dance back to the Hotel :)
