Another First
I think I'm like most blippers and find it a lot harder on these dull grey days.
Today was a catch up day, and I wanted to make the effort to go see Mollie in the nursing home, so really I was looking to the journey out to Milnthorpe to provide some interest. With a strong wind I could see from Mollies room that the Dalham deer herd were sheltering on our side of the hill, so after a quiet visit we wandered over to see what we could see.
But, nice as the deer were, this little creature, just at the limit of little camera's zoom grabbed our attention, I've never seen one in the flesh before, it's a Little Egret, a relatively recent settler in our lands (ha- take that Brexiteers). Whilst not endangered there are only around 700 breeding UK pairs and 4,500 birds that overwinter here. Non of my shots of it were great, but I chose this one as it shows the lovely head plumes and the yellow feet that differentiate it from the Great Egret.
