The Journey Home
It's been a very long day. We boarded the Uig ferry at 7am and arrived in Edinburgh at 7:30pm. Twelve hours of travelling in the company of the Jacobites through Skye with the Cuillin shrouded in cloud, to Portree, and onward through places rich in Scottish history, Glen Shiel, Invermorriston, Eilean Donan castle,Loch Ness, and Urquhart Castle to Inverness.
I couldn't visit Potree without blipping the iconic colourful houses at the harbour
There was a short break in the Highland Capital before travelling under lowering skies through the Cairngorms, the Monadhliaths and the Grampians to the clearer skies of wooded Perthshire.
Lady Luck kept company with us again today as the ferry sailings from Harris and Lewis were in doubt after a red weather alert causing CalMac to consider cancelling some sailings ahead of the storm. We escaped it all, out running the winds, although we did have an electricity black out for 30 minutes last night which might have served as a precursor of what was to come.
It has been a wonderful 5 days away, even if our eyes have seen more exercise than our legs and our derrières are moulded into the shape of the City Link bus seats.
