Koloss von Prora

Travelled west along the coast today to the island of Rugen which is famous/infamous for the Koloss von Prora - the Colossus of Prora  - the massive Nazi designed hotel complex. Built by the Kraft durch Freude organisation between 1936 and 39 this six mile long hotel was designed to hold 20,000 visitors at a time. It was never used as a hotel but served as a military hospital and refugee centre.  Although some parts were destroyed by the Soviets the bulk of the structure is intact, indeed some blocks are currently being re-furbished for sale.
