The Home of Cricket
Well next to Scarborough. What a day to savour. For the non-cricketers miss the next paragraph.
We had a mountain to climb. 235-6 overnight we had to get to 350 to stay in the fight for the championship. So first rafiq with Bresnan forged their way forward. We got over 300 could we believe it possible. Then rafiq, Patterson and brooks were back in the pavilion. Still Tim Bresnan now a Worthy centurion was still there. Last man, the aging Ryan Sidebottom as Yorkshire as they come stride to the wicket we were 334. Over the next lifetime we inched our way forward run by run. Was it possible could we get over the line. After an eternity we reached 349 for 9. (see extra pic)
Unbelievably bad light forced us off the field and then rain. So close and yet so far away. Over an hour later with the sun out the gladiators returned to the field. First over back a maiden where was this run coming from. Then the old man, 38 to be precise, clipped it to the boundary, did a jig, hugged his partner and Yorkshire can fight on tomorrow.
What a last day tomorrow. Somerset win today so either Yorkshire or Middlesex have to win tomorrow to take the championship. A draw for either team will not do. I will be there, hoping that Yorkshire can bowl well and get a finish. I felt drained today and if it goes close tomorrow and we get it what an end to a season. More tomorrow.
