My life in blips

Traditions

Through east, visiting mum and dad in St Andrews today.

Spotted some undergraduates making their way down to the harbour to process  along the pier at the East Sands, as they traditionally do after chapel on a Sunday.  It's quite a spectacle (see extra photo).

St Andrews University has many old traditions.  If I hadn't been brought up here, I think I would've loved to have studied here.

In all the years I lived in St Andrews, I don't think I actually saw the Sunday walk - just remember seeing it on postcards in the ice-cream shop! I was also informing Eubers about how the position of the undergraduate gown, denotes the year of the student ie the further down your shoulders/arms, the further you are through your studies.  (He mumbled something about how I seem to tell him this every time we are in St Andrews. I have now taken cognisance that he understands the gown wearing tradition, and will try not to repeat myself each time we visit St Andrews!)
