Fossilized...

mammoth ivory. This bird pendant was made by an Alaskan I met years ago in Alaska. He has a homestead in the wilderness where he lived and trapped and hunted fossils for 25 years. He lives in town now and creates unusual jewelry from Alaskan materials he has collected over the years. The mammoth ivory is usually found when digging for gold.
I was happy to buy this piece from a friend I stayed with in Alaska some years ago out in the bush six and a half hours out the Kantishna River. We traveled out to the homestead in a boat and only saw 5 cabins and a few camps the whole trip. Remote hardly describes it.
The extra is Miles in front of his cabin in the bush. He is quite a character, has written several books, and is a very interesting artist. I'm thrilled to have this piece made by him.
