IoT - The Beginning or Continuation......

Steve has heralded today as the day that IoT (Internet of Things) comes to our house.

This is due to the smart bulbs he bought (it is pretty cool! even though it really is just lightbulbs) and a.......

wait for it.... sooo exciting.......

a "Finish" button so we can automatically order dishwasher tablets when the previous ones are about to run out.  Amazon must have seen a massive increase in orders and cancelled orders as people try out their new buttons!

The other thing is, at what point do we end up with drawers full of buttons - there must be some way to have a console where the buttons are "soft" buttons so when you order and set one up then you get a new icon on your console - then you will have one thing rather than multiple.  I think it is a similar challenge with the increased number of apps offering ways to pay with your phone - again how do we consolidate this so we have one place to go where I can access multiple payment services etc.

Actually I have a good idea of how all this can be achieved and I am sure it will be, we are just at the dawn of a new age and as it is all a novelty and not yet the challenge, there isn't the impetus to solve it *just* yet.

Anyways, this isn't our first day of IoT as I reminded Steve given our tado heating system and Sonos system in the house - both of which we have had for some time and we can control from our phones.  I have even had the joyous opportunity on one cold evening of understanding the back up solutions for our IoT items when the bloody wifi goes down! hah :)
