I am the resurrection (Day 498)
It was another reasonable morning as we all wandered up the hill.
We trundled to town and dropped stuff off and picked stuff up, returning to take the dogs to Brodgar for the afternoon wander.
On the way back from Brodgar we popped in to see Keith and to get a loan of his soldering iron. I planned to spend the afternoon performing surgery on my beautiful wife's camera.
Yesterday HV's camera decided that it wouldn't work because it was sure the SD card was locked. After looking on the web at various probable causes, then peering into the card slot and comparing it to y camera, it became clear that there was a piece broken off the card reader. The web said that a blob of solder could be used to short out the connection and the problem would be overcome. I didn't think it would take that long. An EOS600D is held together with 750 billion tiny screws. The SD card reader is on a circuit board which is under another circuit board. 15 billion cables need to be detached, then another 47 screws removed, then the card reader is accessible. So you have to unplug another load of cables and undo another pile of screws, and remove the card reader and the board it is on.
The soldering was relatively easy, but it was fiddly.
I got it all back together with, surprisingly, no left over bits.
AND IT WORKS!!!!
I am quite surprised.
This is what the inside of an EOS600D looks like, just in case you are interested...
