Kamera-Kazi

After nearly three weeks on this lovely island, this is my last weekend before I return to Tokyo. My fiancée is arriving on the ferry tomorrow morning (11 hour journey) to spend the weekend here with me and then we return together on Tuesday.

This is a view of Hachijo-Kojima (640m), a dormant volcano just offshore from Hachijojima. It last erupted in the 60's and the inhabitants were evacuated and now live here. To take this photo, I'm standing on the black volcanic rock of the last eruption of the now dormant Mt. Hachijo-Fuji (860m) that last erupted approx 20-30,000 years ago. The last of the three volcanos making up this island is called Mt. Mihara (740m), that erupted 80,000 years ago and is now extant, I think!
