Kangaroo Paw
We walked around Joondalup Lake admiring the wild flower selection that was along the edge of the pathway as well as the splendid array of colour amongst the trees and shrubs, we was on the look out for a donkey orchid we knew grew in this part of the bushland, but alas not one to be found, we did spot one or two Kangaroo Paws which never fails to appeal, we love their dark colours and the small paw-like fringe along its edges.
Red and Green Kangaroo Paw, Anigozanthos manglesii was proclaimed the floral emblem of Western Australia on 9 November 1960.
It is one of about twelve species of the genus Anigozanthos which is restricted to the south-west of Western Australia. The family Haemodoraceae to which it belongs occurs in Australia, Papua New Guinea, South Africa and the Americas.
