Not as bad a night or start to the day - at least no sign the firebrigade were out pumping out cellars. Given most of their hoses were being used this weekend to feed the village youths party "hut" with fresh water. On the map you get some idea how far the hut is from the main road hydrant. The slurry tank was probably pumping out the aftermath of last nights disco. Tonight it's the turn of the village oldies with an evening of brass music. Shame though about the weather. More about the event on last years Blip.
In the morning when it was luckily not raining, the young joiners came by to have a look at our roof so as to prepare a quote. I told them about EvelyneNC mentioning she had seen one of the joiner journeymen hitch-hiking in Oregon and she didn't realise they went abroad in their 3 year journey. He pointed at his black trousers and said they were "Hamburg" style, very flared trousers reminiscent of sailors uniforms. Joiners were of course very important in the days of wooden ships and even today, the journeymen try to get a job on a ship to get them over water and to their next adventure.
This morning the Oktoberfest in Munich had a damp start. Probably most of the residents of Munich (not the businesses) will be pleased if the weather isn't too good and keep down the visitors. For the first time, the massive area has been fenced in for security reasons, no rucksacks allowed and spot searching. Entry is still free except for the agricultural show during the first week. For the children wanting to go on the rides it was of course as miserable as our dog walks today.
