The Snowdogs have come to town

Quiet morning then off to Newcastle for the football.  Newcastle United v Wolves. Hopes were high for a good result after the 6 nil win away at QPR a few days ago.  Hopes were dashed when Newcastle lost.  Final score Newcastle 0 Wolves 2.  Many Newcastle supporters left before the end.  We have to play Wolves again on Tuesday evening in a Cup game - hope the result is different then.

On my way to the football ground I found a Snowdog.  A local hospice has organised a public art event which will see over 50 giant dog sculptures form a trail around our region. They will be in place until 29th November.  They are based on Raymond Briggs' The Snowman and The Snowdog and the sculptures have been decorated by local artists and celebrities. They will be joined by 95 Mini Snowdogs  designed by local schoolchildren. The sculptures will be auctioned off to raise money for the hospice at the end of November.

The Snowdog I have blipped is situated near Greys Monument in Newcastle and it's called ROSA CANINA.  Rosa Canina is the botanical name for the Dog Rose. The sculpture has a vintage/retro feel to it with a mottled soft turquoise background and beautifully hand drawn botanical style illustrations of dog roses painted all over it. The artist is Sue Guthrie.  I wanted to take a better photo but a little girl came and sat underneath it while her Dad was taking shots and they took ages - and I had to get off to the football.

I actually saw two of the mini Snowdogs on Thursday which I found by chance  in The Seven Stories National Centre for Childrens Books in Ouseburn.  I have added them as Extras. The spotty one is called Pup-Art and the other one is called Hilary.
