silver lining

I had set off on my bike this afternoon to go to the Eid celebrations in Dumfries town centre and then a talk about the author Rumer Godden by her daughter at The Usual Place, but in the end I went to neither of these. I ended up drinking coffee in the Robert The Bruce pub with Peter Angelini, "The People's Poet", whose portrait I had featured a couple of days ago on my "Humans of Dumfries and Galloway" Facebook page. Here is the ceiling of the pub, featuring portraits of Robert the Bruce, seagulls and pigeons. The pub is in a converted methodist church and overlooks the site of the monastery where Bruce killed his rival, John Comyn.

The reason that my plans changed was that I had just passed the station when my seat bolt sheared in half and my saddle fell off. Not a pleasant experience but at least I avoided being impaled on the seat post. I had to visit a couple of bike shops before I got it fixed.

Best laid plans...
