Bee savvy

Bees fascinate me, so today was a good chance to learn more about them at a local beekeeping and honey show that I went to with my good friend Linda. I learned a lot. There are some 250 species of bees in Britain. It takes approximately a million trips from hive to flower to make one jar of honey. The lifespan of a worker bee in summer in typically just six weeks.

A queen bee can lay up to 2,000 eggs a day. No wonder she's less lively than a worker. You can spot the queen in this shot by the blue spot on her back.
