#GetInTheBin

To The Western Sydney Parklands we went today - for the Food Festival at the "Lizard Log" (cool family area with good play stuff for the kids, as well as huge amounts of space. Best bit for me (and Mrs tsuken) was Costa Georgiadis, talking about sustainable gardening. Well, actually, he just seemed to be talking; I caught part of his first  talk, and the second was completely different.

Anyhoo... I was inspired. Ok, we already compost; we already don't use single-use stuff; we don't use plastic shopping bags; we recycle more than we throw away, and so on. But it was still really inspiring. I'm going to improve my compost, and I'm going to look at getting a worm farm going.

Also, what a guy! I overheard him talking with the director of the Parklands; he hadn't had anything to eat (it was almost 4 pm) and nothing to drink but a few cups of tea, but he spoke with everyone who came up to him - after he finished his talk, and didn't have long till his next one. Every man (and woman) and their dog wanted a selfie (well, actually not really a selfie, as not a one of them actually took the photo themselves, but they all referred to it as a selfie ... whatevs xP), and he obliged all. I asked him a question, and he started to answer, but was rushing to wash his hands from the last demonstration, then got waylaid by someone he knew, and then had to get changed ... I disappeared with the first fraction of an answer, not wanting to be pushy. A bit later, walking along, I feel a hand on my shoulder, and hear "Your question!"; turn around, and there's Costa! He'd seen me, and come over to finish talking with me. Super-cool guy; really passionate.

This shot is the one I think funnest of those I took. One of Costa's take-home points (made off the cuff, but all good), was "Get in the bin": look in one's bin, to see what you're actually throwing away; what's going to landfill; what's in a recycling bin that can't be recycled and thus mucks up the whole bin; what should be composted; what should never even be used - such as single-use plates, cutlery etc ... It was really good.

And the faces of some of the people walking past, who didn't know what was going on... xD
