Nuthatch

I was working at home today, and it being a lovely sunny day I had the French windows open. During the afternoon I heard a very distinctive bird song, a series of loud piping notes, and looked up to see two nuthatches on the seed feeder.

It was a very pleasing sight - only the second time this year I have seen them in the garden. They were around for about half an hour, often squabbling with each other to get to the food. They finally disappeared when our cat Ellie put in an appearance.
