Bye bye, mahoosive room in swish hotel!

Not sure what to tell you today folks. I've had a nice day, but nothing earth shattering. Went out to Schönbrunn Palace this morning and, though I didn't go inside, I can tell you though that there will have been huge, fabulously decorated rooms full of portraits of people I've never heard of, in ornate gilt frames, and period furniture! I walked around the gardens instead, which were extensive. There were several beautiful fountains and a maze, which I navigated with only a little help :-) There were lots of people running, and I thought how lovely it would be if you were a local and it was your usual route. Not that it would be mine, even if I did live here!

Which I wouldn't choose to. I'm not sure if i'm just tired of Austria - I've been here since last Tuesday after all - but Vienna strikes me as having a very high opinion of itself. It's expensive here (I wanted to see a Mozart recital but, even though they're on daily so it's not a special occurrence, it would have cost me 44 euros - and that's a cheap seat!) and the people seem to look down their noses at you. If I ever came back to Austria, I believe I'd go to Salzburg instead - it's more charming!

So, onward to Munich tomorrow, and i'm ambivalent about it. I wouldn't have stayed so long in Austria, or gone to Germany at all, but a friend is coming out to meet me and Munich is relatively cheap to get to. I'm looking forward to seeing her, and the company generally, and we'll see what Munich has to offer :-)

I really ought to get packing, but I want to make the most if this fantastic bed whilst I can!

ps you're all losers (in the nicest possible way of course), which is a good job because I ate all 3 meatballs last night - the window display was from a bakery. Now that's creativity for you!
