South Prairie Creek Restoration
Things are hopping out here in western Washington. This is a project to improve instream conditions for endangered salmonids and also provide bank protection to a pedestrian bridge over South Prairie Creek. The contractor is about 1/2 done and moving fast which is a welcome relief for a project that took so long to get through the design and permitting process.
The ELJ pictured is intended to deflect flow away from an erroding bank and create a scour hole and habitat for salmon within the stream. It takes some big equipment to build these structures but is well worth the effort.
