On the Wall
A wonderful day in the most splendid company.
After a leisurely breakfast and chat, we started out by taking rainie to meet clickychick. These two have both been in contact on Blip for many years and clickychick was disappointed that she couldn’t get to the Blipmeet on Saturday as she has to be at her studio . . . so we took rainie to the studio. What a lot of chat ensued. A great meeting all round.
We eventually left Penrith and made our way to Lanercost. The ‘coffee stop’ had now turned into lunch and what a delightful lunch it was. We couldn’t believe we were sitting outside in the sunshine.
Then we headed for the Roman Wall and decided Housesteads was perhaps the best introduction. And so it turned out to be. We had a fine time wandering the fort and the wall. It was very warm and sunny, but sadly the mist never lifted, so the views were not that brilliant.
We took the ‘scenic’ view back over Hartside and, although it wasn't that scenic because of the mist, our visitors were impressed with 'one of the best drives in the world'. . . or at least they said they were.
Then we dropped them off in Penrith, so they could collect their car and head off to Keswick. Just the most wonderful day.
