Les visiteurs du soir

The original of this monumental sculpture was created by the Belgian artist Pol Spilliaert in 1975. The little plaster model next to the book was given to us by Pol when we visited him and his talented wife/assistant at their home near Brugge.
We originally met them in Metz in France, while we were staying at the home of an architect in the village where Robert Schumann, the person who first had the idea of bringing European countries economically together, and was instrumental in the creation of NATO.

Pol also gave us the book that showcases all his work and is a biography of his life. Most of his work is cast in bronze and is of gigantic proportions. He is now eighty years old and we are no longer in contact, - he doesn't do internet or email, and Christina his wife speaks neither English nor French. We often think of them and have a poster on the wall advertising an exhibition of his work.

Maybe there is a blipper out there who knows Pol or is familiar with his work.
