Diary of an Edinburgher

Dreich!

A dreich day, and as the day went on, it got even dreicher. You couldn't see any rain, but umbrellas and coats were wet when you got inside.

Anne came to take Archie out, but I told her not to worry about frolicking on the Meadows - didn't want both of them getting drookit.

A dogless day - the world's our lobster. What to do? The Harry Benson exhibition at the Parliament was tempting, but two buses and walking. Photographic Exhibition at the Portrait Gallery? A bus and a tram. We settled on a film - perfect for a wet afternoon.

We went to the Cameo to see the afternoon film on Screen One, which turned out to be 'Captain Fantastic'. The best things about this afternoon out was the tasty lunch in the Cameo bar, the comfy seats in the theatre, and the fact that the tickets were only £4. The film went on for too long, and got more and more ridiculous. Despite good acting - even the wee kids - and 5 star reviews, I found it quite tedious. But don't let me put you off... The elder brother's face annoyed me, because I couldn't place what film I'd seen him in, but I've found out he was in Sunshine on Leith (a very fine film).

Bake Off on tonight. I'm not avid fan, but I do half watch it. What a hoo-ha about it moving to Channel 4. Getting really fed up with not having a remote for the TV. To think that's what we used to put up with...

On the way home, I spotted these wee drippy daisies in our garden. They summed up the dreich day.
