Orcas Island

We left Bellingham, WA bright and early so we could take the Washington State Ferries from Anacortes, WA to Orcas Island. The ferry goes to the four largest of the San Juan Islands located north of the Strait of Juan de Fuca off the west coast of Washington. This was our first experience visiting the San Juans and we have lessons learned: take the earliest ferry out, the latest one back and plan to spend the night nearby. Due to our scheduling restrictions, we did not get time to really visit the beautiful parts of the island before we had to line up for our trip back to the mainland. This photo was taken as we left port but it does not adequately portray the beauty of the area. The views of Mt. Baker were so beautiful but I needed more than my iPhone to capture the vista.
