Good News!
The Community Right to Buy registration has been successful. The Government has accepted the Community Right to Buy application and has requested that the Church of Scotland put the sale of Bellfield Old Parish Church buildings and grounds on hold until Scottish Government Ministers decide whether to give the community the chance to raise the funds to pay the full market value for them.
This is the first ever successful urban Community Right to Buy registration.
Action Porty, the group behind the local campaign, is very hopeful that the Church of Scotland will also see this as a win-win outcome, and that everyone can move forward in a collaborative spirit to ensure the best possible outcome for Portobello and Joppa Parish Church and for the community as a whole.
Although nothing is assured, they say they are optimistic that this vital resource can be saved for the community. Currently there are 1,523 supporters and 339 members, and counting, involved in this community campaign.
