Flax Lily

Back where I am most comfortable, among my precious Australian natives!  This is Dianella, a low growing shrub which borders the roundabout in our small village.  I think this is Daniella tasmanica. It looks scrappy at times and there are residents who want it removed, but how could you if you looked closely at the tiny perfect flowers? Commonly called flax lilies, they flower in spring, with three petals, 3 sepals and prominent yellow stamens. They range from Japan to India, thence from Australian to New Zealand, also occurring in the pacific islands. About half the species of Daniella are native to Australia. This little flower is about 1.5cm across.
