Glenlivet Packhorse Bridge.

Travelled up to Elgin with occasional Blipper, Janes11, this afternoon for a beekeeping conference tomorrow. We took the more direct route over the Cairngorms so that we could enjoy the scenery. So it happened that coming out of many of the corners, the car screeched to a halt for yet another Blippertunity. The last stop was the best, neither of us had any idea that this bridge existed though I now find that it features in whisky adverts. It was probably built in the 16th century for the nearby Blairfindy Castle.
 
There were originally three spans, the first is out of shot on the right of the picture, while the third was washed away by floods in 1829 during the “Great Muckle Spate”. The structure was stabilised in 1985.
 
We came across the bridge and its picnic site come car park as we came off the hills, while the two extras were taken earlier at much higher attitude. When I came this way earlier in the year with Mrs TD, she complained of “popping” ears.
