Traditional.....
....... you don't get much more traditional than the village church - in this case the church of St Michael the Archangel at Emley, dating from 1300 and grade one listed. Passing by this morning I went in for a look around, and was very surprised to be made so welcome.
In 2005 the Church was re-ordered and the interior re-organised with many new facilities including underfloor heating, a kitchen, including cooker and fridge, and a bell-ringing platform. There is also an extensive lighting and sound system for voice and music as well as a computerised projection system. The church is open daily for visitors with self service refreshments available. and is also used for a wide range of events, including fundraising activities, concerts, recitals, coffee mornings, luncheon clubs, mother and toddler group, youth groups and exhibitions.
This community seems to have turned my idea of "traditional" on it's head, but I think they have the right idea - it seems the church has become the focal point of the village in a new more modern way. Perhaps a new tradition has been born.
Thank you Ingeborg for another interesting challenge.
