Ely Cathedral

We went to Ely today, had tea and a scone at the Cathedral when we got there, then went on a tour of the Cathedral up into the Lantern which was amazing built with Oak Trees carried down the river from Bedfordshire.
There has bee n a church on the site since 673, founded by St Etheldreda a Saxon Princess who after 2 marriages became a nun. the Saxon church was destroyed by the Danes in 870 restored as a Benedictine Monastery in 970 demolished to make way for the present church build by the Normans between 1081 - 1189  the central tower fell in the 14th century and the Octagon and Lantern were built.
