SHELL HOUSE

We took the dogs to Hatfield Forest for a good long run this morning. We ended up at the lake and had coffee and biscuits.
My blip is of a side wall of the Shell House which was built before 1759 by the then owner for picnics and summer parties for friends and family. The interior and exterior was thought to be designed by the seventeen year old daughter of the owner, Laetitia. Both of the sides feature a sunburst pattern.
Above the door (my extra) is a peacock, the breast of which is made from the fossil of an Inoceramus, a bi-valved mollusc from the Cretaceous Period (145 - 65 million years ago.)
The building was locked, so I will try and get pictures another time of the interior shell decorations.
