King Henry the 3rd

We had a speaker at the club today. He's a local historian and his subject this time was Royal Visitors to our town.

A long list of Kings and Queens have visited. Mainly, it seems, to hunt deer in the deer park which are now the fields our house backs on to. These kings included Henry the 8th.

We were told that King Henry the third was born in our Castle. This news, I repeated to my son (also Henry) so he looked it up on Wiki which states he was born in Winchester Castle. 

Well, someone is telling porkies!

It was an excuse to post a photo of Devizes Castle. Originally built with wood in 1020 but the most recent building is 1842.
