A Question

For my gardening/tree loving blip buddies.

Does anybody know what this tree/very large bush is called. Those are spikes or barbs sticking out of it. They are solid, they do not bend when they dig in you and they hurt, a lot. Each barb is just short of the length of an index finger.
I have enlarged the leaves as much as I can in my extra.
There are 2 of these trees in my neighbour's front garden. I use the word 'neighbour' lightly. They overhang the public pavement by about two feet and these barbs go from ground level to the enormous height that my neighbour has let it grow to.
I do hope one of you clever blippers will know what it is called.
