I didn't expect to see the race today!

For many years I've been invited out for a cup of coffee with ex-Tynefield School staff in September. A meeting designed to be held when former colleagues are back at work.This was the first time I'd been able to go. I took with me the ex-librarian who had just moved back to Penrith

I left that job, as lab technician, 40 years ago this month but I had kept in contact with most of the staff because I continued to go to Staff Dos with The Man.

It was nice reminiscing about old times. We talked all morning so I thought the race would have been through my village but, to my surprise, I was still in time to abandon the car and hurry, in silly shoes, into the village and choose my position.
