Bratislava
Day 4 of our Danube River Cruise. Part of our visit to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, was a walking tour of its fascinating Old Town. We loved exploring the winding cobblestoned streets, ducking into shops and seeing the gothic churches. I choose this photo because of the joy and delight that these children were having in the middle of the town. This bubble master had the children squealing in delight as he created huge bubbles for them to chase after.
My extra photo is a more somber capture of a Holocaust memorial on the former site of a synagogue that was bombed during World War II. This sculpture remembers the murdered Jews of Bratislava and the 105,000 Jews from Slovakia who perished during the Holocaust. Milan Lukac's sculpture symbolizes the violent killing of the Jews and the decay of their abandoned houses. As our guide was telling us about this monument, I noticed the many people in our group seemed very disinterested and ready to move on. It made me determined to read more about this memorial and post a photo. May we never forget.
