Dead as a ............

..............Cotinus Royal Purple (Smoke Bush).
I don't know what's happened to it, but it appears that it's a bit more serious than resting. 
As Mr Praline (John Cleese) might have said "Look, matey, I know a dead Cotinus when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now."
We thought it had died last year actually and then this spring a shoot appeared from the base - but that appears to have had it now.
